Fire & Dust explosions

3 elements are needed to cause a fire or an explosion:
Oxygen
The oxygen content needs to be above 11% for combustion to take place. The normal atmosphere consists of 21% oxygen, which means that we always have one part fulfilled to start a fire/explosion.
Inflammable materials
Anything that has been transformed into fine particles can burn or explode. Every year, many serious fires and explosions occur in industrial plants as result of dust (yes, dust!). Most material is inflammable and explosive.
Ignition sources
Within industry, the most common ignition sources arise within production equipment - when metal strikes metal or by heat generated in the process. Worn parts as well as foreign objects (stones, nails, nuts, etc.) can also increase the risk of generating ignition sources. No actual spark is needed to start a fire or explosion. Hot particles can start a fire/explosion at temperatures down to 250°C/480°F.
Detection is key!
Experience and research show that effective and reliable detection of ignition sources is decisive in reducing risks (damage to plants causing loss of revenue and/or human life) thus ensuring uninterrupted production in industrial processes.
